LLVM adds support for new AMD Zen 5 security instructions
The LLVM/Clang compiler has added support for new AMD instructions designed for upcoming Zen 5 processors and future generations. These include RMPOPT, RMPREAD, and RMPCHKD instructions.
These updates aim to enhance performance and security for servers utilizing AMD’s Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV-SNP) technology. The RMPOPT instruction is intended to reduce overhead associated with security functions, while RMPREAD and RMPCHKD assist in managing memory pages to ensure the integrity of encrypted data in virtualized environments.
This integration is a key step toward more efficient and secure server infrastructure, particularly for data centers and cloud providers. Full optimization is expected once the Linux kernel is prepared to support these advancements.
