Llyn Tegid parking fines hit eight Devon bikers

New solar‑powered ANPR parking cameras were activated on 13 July at Llyn Tegid (Bala) in Wales to curb overnight camping. The cameras now enforce a £1 charge for motorcycles and a daily rate of £8 for cars.

Eight motorcyclists from Devon who stopped twice at the lake to buy ice‑cream were each issued two £60 penalties, totalling £960. One rider from Torquay said, “I’ve been visiting Llyn Tegid for many years… I never saw any signage about a parking fee for motorcycles.”

Local residents, feeling excluded from their own lake, have started a petition to the Eryri National Park Authority demanding free access to the car parks. The move follows recent over‑tourism, expanded parking capacity and increased fees at the popular site.
