LMBV inspects mining reclamation progress in Leipzig region
The LMBV supervisory board conducted a site inspection of the central German mining reclamation region near Leipzig to review progress on various landscape renovation projects.
At Berzdorfer See, construction to stabilize the southwest slope using a drainage support disc is scheduled to resume on September 1, 2026, with an expected completion in December 2026. While the walking path toward landslide area P will be closed, access to the Blue Lagoon beach and restaurant will remain available.
At Gröberner See, officials discussed the expansion of the Gröbern drain to replace the existing pumping station. Efforts are also underway to release over 550 hectares from mining supervision, which will allow for the decommissioning of certain facilities and the development of new residential and recreational areas, including the ‘Hänicher Südstrand’.
The tour also included a visit to Ferropolis at Gremminer See, a former open-cast mine that now serves as an industrial monument and event space.
