LMKN demands Rp75 billion in music royalties from Netflix

The National Collective Management Organization (LMKN) is demanding that Netflix pay approximately Rp75 billion in unpaid music royalties in Indonesia. According to LMKN General Secretary M. Bigi Ramadha Putra, the streaming platform has reportedly failed to pay royalties for the use of musical works and songs since it began its commercial digital services in the country in 2016.

LMKN asserts that these payments are mandated by several regulations, including Law Number 28 of 2014 on Copyright and Government Regulation Number 56 of 2021 regarding the Management of Song and/or Music Copyright Royalties.

If Netflix fails to comply, LMKN intends to report the matter to the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Communication and Digital. The organization has indicated that it may seek to have Netflix's access blocked in Indonesia if the copyright obligations are not met.
