Lünen awards Iris Streich with 2026 Volunteer Award

The city of Lünen has selected 77-year-old Iris Streich as the recipient of the 2026 Volunteer Award (Ehrenamtspreis). The decision was made by the Committee for Citizen Service, Social Affairs, and Volunteering during its meeting on September 9.

Streich is being recognized for her decades of commitment to education, culture, and social cohesion within the city. Since 2016, she has led the support circle for the Lünen Music School, where she manages fundraising and project support. She also organizes the ‘Schapp-O-Klack’ choir.

Additionally, Streich has served the Lünen City Library since 2011 and has been its support association chair since 2021. Under her leadership, the association developed programs such as reading mentors for children and seniors, a reading café, and the ‘Saite an Seite’ event series. The official award ceremony is scheduled for January 15, 2027, during the Mayor's reception.
