Lünen expands Municipal Regulatory Service to nighttime patrols
The city of Lünen has released an interim report following the expansion of its Municipal Regulatory Service (KOD) to include night shifts. Since mid-July, the service has increased its presence at locations prone to complaints and conflicts, including Seepark, Cappenberger See, schoolyards, and playgrounds.
Under the new schedule, the KOD operates until 11 PM from Monday to Thursday, and until 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. In its first eight weeks of nighttime operation, the service responded to 89 reported incidents involving noise disturbances and harassment, such as large parties and loud groups in public spaces.
In addition to noise control, the KOD has focused on youth protection and public area inspections. During these patrols, officers have addressed rule violations on playgrounds and confiscated non-compliant disposable e-cigarettes. The city noted that the police are engaged whenever criminal activity is suspected or more extensive measures are necessary.
