LNG Canada pledges $5 million for Kitimat Eco Depot

LNG Canada has provided a $5 million sponsorship to the district of Kitimat to fund the development of a planned Eco Depot. This investment is intended to support the community’s efforts to reduce waste sent to local landfills.

The proposed facility is designed to move beyond standard recycling by offering spaces for item reuse, repair, sharing, and education. Construction of the depot is envisioned to take place within the next three years, though the full range of services offered has not yet been finalized.

This initiative follows a 2020 solid waste strategy in Kitimat, which introduced curbside recycling, food and yard-waste collection, and garbage limits. The project also builds on a composting facility at the Kitimat Landfill that opened in 2025, which was also supported by funding from LNG Canada.
