LNG tanker enters Świnoujście terminal after weather delay
An LNG tanker chartered by Orlen, the Danuta Siedzikówna-Inka, has successfully docked at the Świnoujście gas terminal in Poland following a nearly three-day delay caused by severe weather. The vessel, which transports liquefied natural gas from the United States, was forced to wait at the roadstead due to a storm triggered by low-pressure system Boelo.
High winds and large waves prevented tugboats and pilots from safely assisting the vessel. Under maritime regulations, operations are restricted when winds exceed 6 on the Beaufort scale or when visibility drops below two nautical miles. The delay resulted in additional chartering costs, which can exceed $100,000 per day. Gas unloading operations are currently underway.
