Lángos home recipe and cost reveal cheap alternative to pricey festival stalls
Lángos is a deep‑fried dough snack that originated in Hungary and is now popular across Central and Eastern Europe, especially in Serbia’s Vojvodina region and in Croatia. A classic home recipe uses 500 g wheat flour, water, fresh or dry yeast, a pinch of sugar and salt, and a little oil for the dough, which is left to rise, shaped into flat rounds and fried until golden. After frying the pieces are brushed with a garlic‑water mixture and topped with sour cream and grated cheese.
A cost breakdown shows that the basic dough for about ten pieces costs roughly €3–5, or €0.30–0.50 per langos. Adding typical toppings such as sour cream, garlic and cheese raises the price to about €0.70–1 per piece. By contrast, street‑food festivals charge €4–7 per langos, reflecting additional expenses like stall rent, staff wages, permits and utilities. The analysis highlights how preparing langos at home is far cheaper than buying the same snack at events.
