LNOBT ballet troupe undergoes professional physical fitness testing

The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (LNOBT) has introduced comprehensive physical fitness testing for its ballet troupe members. This initiative, which is planned to continue throughout the current season, aims to provide dancers with modern tools to meet the high physical demands of contemporary ballet, which requires seamless transitions between classical and modern choreographic styles.

Ballet director Jurgita Dronina noted that the theater is looking to international best practices, citing organizations like the Royal Ballet, Australian Ballet, and Dutch National Ballet as leaders in integrating sports science into dance. Rather than mechanically copying foreign systems, the LNOBT is working with specialists from 'Jusis Training' to apply sports science principles specifically to the unique requirements of individual ballet artists.
