Paraguayan police confirm child seen at Expo is not missing Argentine boy Loan Peña
During a live broadcast from the Expo 2026 in Mariano Roque Alonso, Paraguay, a boy identified as “Ramiro” was interviewed while wearing an Argentine football shirt. Social‑media users noted a strong resemblance to Loan Danilo Peña, the 5‑year‑old who disappeared in Corrientes, Argentina, in June 2024. Paraguayan authorities opened an investigation, comparing the child’s facial features with the Interpol yellow‑alert photograph of Loan. Morphological analysis and security‑camera footage showed an 88 % similarity, but the required confidence threshold of 90 % was not met. The boy’s parents provided birth and identity documents, which were cross‑checked through Argentina’s Federal Missing Persons System (SIFEBU). The documents confirmed the child is not Loan, and no evidence of coercion or abduction was found at the fair. Officials reiterated the presence of a distinctive scar on Loan’s scalp noted in the alert, which was not observed on the Paraguayan child. The case of Loan Peña remains open in Argentina, with a trial ongoing against several alleged abductors.
