Lobas Alimerka Oviedo wins preseason handball match

Lobas Alimerka Oviedo secured their first preseason victory with a 24-27 win against Caja Rural Cleba in La Robla. Despite an early deficit where they trailed 8-5, the team responded with a 0-5 run to lead at halftime. Key performances included Lisa Chiagozie, who scored six goals, and Jimena Merino, who also contributed six. The team now prepares for the semifinals of the III Memorial Julio Gilsanz against Conservas Orbe Zendal Porriño.

This victory comes amid a period of significant transition for the Oviedo club. Following a successful run to the promotion playoff semifinals last season, the organization has undergone a deep reconstruction. President Fernando Villabella noted that the roster is being renewed with younger, versatile players, acknowledging that player turnover is a natural part of the sport as athletes seek better economic opportunities. Coach Javi Rodríguez emphasized that the team is essentially a new, rebuilt squad that requires significant work to consolidate its performance for the upcoming season.
