Local administrations in Milazzo and Messina face budget and contract developments

In Milazzo, Mayor Pippo Midili has met with municipal managers to initiate the 2027-2029 budget planning process. The administration aims to finalize the budget with the Giunta by October and secure City Council approval by year-end to ensure full operational capacity by early 2027. Key priorities include infrastructure and energy projects, such as integrated public lighting via project financing, the creation of a renewable energy community using photovoltaic plants on public buildings, the completion of the former Covered Market, and the revitalization of the San Pietro elementary school to serve as a regional employment center.

In a separate administrative matter, the renewal of the service contract for Messina Social City has been postponed in the Budget Commission. Minority councilors Giuseppe Capurro and Marcello Scurria challenged the proposal, citing the absence of mandatory opinions from the Board of Auditors. The councilors noted that the service contract has been expired for a year and argued that obtaining these formal opinions is essential for transparency and correctness in managing fundamental public services.
