Local administrative disputes in Italy regarding thermal baths and landfills
In Fano, the “Riapriteci le Terme di Carignano” committee has responded to statements from Deputy Mayor Loretta Manocchi regarding the Carignano thermal complex. While the committee acknowledged the administration's public comments, they described the measures provided—such as waste removal and asbestos remediation at the Hotel Quattro Fonti—as insufficient. The committee argued that these actions constitute routine maintenance rather than a strategic vision for territorial relaunch. They also criticized the administration for emphasizing the site's private ownership as a reason for the current stalemate, noting that the economic and tourism impacts remain a public interest.
In Ceprano, the City Council has passed a resolution formally opposing the reopening of the Cerreto – V Bacino landfill located in the neighboring municipality of Roccasecca. The decision follows significant public mobilization and a petition signed by over 400 citizens. Councilwoman Elisa Guerriero, a key proponent of the opposition, emphasized the need for detailed assessments regarding environmental and health impacts, as well as territorial self-sufficiency. Guerriero noted that the province of Frosinone has significantly reduced its reliance on landfills, questioning the necessity of reopening the site.
