Local authorities in Lanús and Soacha respond to emergencies

In Lanús, Argentina, the local legislative body approved a General Emergency Management Plan to organize state responses to natural disasters, extreme weather, and service interruptions. The plan establishes an Emergency Operations Committee (COE) led by the mayor to coordinate with security forces and civil society, utilizing a four-level color-coded alert system.

During the same session, officials expressed concern regarding the potential closure of the PAMI Clinic in Remedios de Escalada by October 31, following reports of staff layoffs and reduced operational capacity.

In Soacha, Colombia, the Mayor's Office has declared a state of public calamity due to heavy rainfall, saturated drainage systems, and road emergencies. The declaration, valid for an initial six months, allows for direct contracting to acquire heavy machinery and high-capacity pumps. Local authorities have responded to over 100 emergencies, addressing issues such as sewer obstructions and slope erosion in several communes and along the Autopista Sur.
