Local authorities launch mosquito control initiatives to prevent dengue

Local authorities in Pehuajó, Argentina, and Matamoros, Mexico, are conducting community-led initiatives to combat the spread of dengue by eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

In the Villa Ángela neighborhood of Pehuajó, a 'descacharreo' day was organized to encourage residents to remove unused objects such as buckets, cans, bottles, and tires that collect stagnant water. The initiative aims to reduce the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito through community participation and proper maintenance of outdoor spaces.

Similarly, in the Mezquital 2 colony of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, municipal teams carried out prevention efforts under the direction of Mayor Beto Granados. These actions included the removal of water-retaining containers, the distribution of abate to control larvae in unavoidable water deposits, and educational sessions to instruct families on how to mitigate risks in their homes and yards.
