Local basketball tournaments in Taranto and Gubbio celebrate community sport

In Taranto, the revived "Torneo dei Bar" staged its opening matches on July 18, with English Cafè defeating Royal Bar 54‑40 and Bar Ariston edging Rosy Bar 46‑39. The two winners will meet in the final on July 19, while the losing sides contest a consolation final for third place. Winners receive a trophy displayed at the sponsor bar and individual awards for the youngest, oldest and top scorer.

In Gubbio, the newly formed APS Gara 9 organized the "Gara 9 Tournament" from July 14‑17 at the refurbished court on via Paruccini, honoring the late youth player Giovanni Pierotti. Mattia Berti won the three‑point shooting contest, and the street‑basket final saw Bar del Furlo defeat Ionni and Friends. Semifinalists also competed for third place. Municipal assessor Enrico Ceccarelli thanked the participants for their effort, highlighting the event’s role in fostering local sport and remembrance.
