Local businesses close in Hakodate and Mito
Several long-standing local businesses have recently closed in Japan. In Hakodate, the soba restaurant Nezaki Yatariya, which had been operating in Takamatsu-cho since 1980, closed its doors on September 30, 2026. The establishment was known for offering both handmade soba and more affordable machine-made options near Hakodate Airport.
In another development, the Shokusai-kan Motoyoshida supermarket, originally founded 55 years ago as Seibu, closed on October 18, 2026. The location is expected to transition into a Kasumi supermarket branch.
