Local candidates hold forums for park and school board elections

Local election forums in California recently featured candidates for the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) and the Palo Alto Unified School District.

In Livermore, seven candidates are competing for three seats on the LARPD Board of Directors. During a forum at the Robert Livermore Community Center, candidates discussed facility issues and potential term limits. While they disagreed on specific priorities, they expressed common support for the district’s childcare program and opposed a tax-sharing agreement currently under litigation with the East Bay Regional Park District. The election will determine the board for terms lasting until 2030.

In Palo Alto, candidates John Craig, Linda Henigin, and Avery Wang participated in a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters to discuss two open seats on the school board. The discussion focused on budget shortfalls, transparency, and academic success under new Superintendent Jason Glass. Candidates addressed the need for better communication with stakeholders and ways to reduce legal costs and increase public involvement in complex decision-making processes.
