Local Chinese restaurants in Gyoda and Utsunomiya close

Several long-standing local Chinese restaurants in Japan are closing their doors.

In Gyoda, Saitama, Hong Kong Hanten is scheduled to close on September 14, 2026. The closure is due to the master's arm pain, though there are mentions of a potential future project titled ‘NEXT Hong Kong Hanten’.

In Utsunomiya, Tochigi, the long-running Meiro Hanten closed at the end of August. The restaurant was well-known for its signature ‘meat stew set meal’, which was ordered by approximately 90% of its customers. The closure drew large crowds and long lines of regulars seeking numbered tickets in its final days.
