Local climate adaptation initiatives launched in Germany and Austria
Local initiatives in Germany and Austria are targeting climate protection and heat mitigation through community engagement and dedicated funding.
In Hamburg, the RISE area of Tegelsbarg/Müssenredder hosted a climate and mobility day organized by the Wandsbek District Office and RISE area management. The event provided residents with information on energy-efficient building renovations, renewable energies, and balcony solar power. It also focused on sustainable mobility, featuring bicycle repair services and information on cycling routes.
In Klagenfurt, Austria, city officials introduced the ‘Cool Down Klagenfurt’ initiative to combat rising temperatures. Under this plan, 50 percent of parking fees collected in the Ostbucht area will be allocated to a permanent heat protection fund. This fund will finance specific climate change adaptation and heat protection measures to improve urban livability and protect vulnerable populations from extreme heat.
