Local communities launch urban cleanliness initiatives
Various municipalities are launching community-driven cleanliness initiatives to improve urban environments and promote environmental responsibility.
In Bafoussam, Cameroon, the Urban Community has introduced the ‘Jeudi Propre’ (Clean Thursday) initiative. The program encourages citizens to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings, including markets, schools, and public spaces. To support sustainable waste management, the city is also promoting plastic recycling, offering 60 CFA francs for every kilogram of plastic waste collected.
In Coulommiers, France, the city is organizing a cleaning operation on September 19 to observe World Cleanup Day. Residents are invited to gather at three designated locations—the Templiers district, the city center, and the Vaux district—to collect litter. The municipality will provide necessary equipment, such as gloves and bags, and will conduct a final weighing of the collected waste at the Town Hall.
