Local community cycling and nature events scheduled in the Netherlands

Various local community events are scheduled in the Netherlands, including a nature excursion and a free cycling tour.

On September 20, the IVN Nieuwegein, IJsselstein, and surrounding areas division is organizing a cycling and walking excursion through the Willeskop nature area near Benschop. Located in the Lopikerwaard, Willeskop serves as a significant habitat for migratory birds and functions as a water storage area capable of holding 200,000 cubic meters of water. The excursion includes an eight-kilometer bike ride followed by a five-kilometer walk led by guides.

Additionally, the municipalities of Westerwolde, Oldambt, and Pekela will host a free cycling tour on September 18, 2026, as part of the National Sports Week. The route, designed by local cycling coaches, connects various community centers where participants can enjoy refreshments, bike checks, and cognitive fitness activities. Registration for this event is required in advance.
