Local community initiatives address housing and hospice care in Germany

In Arnsberg, the city administration and the Arnsberg/Sundern Adult Education Center (vhs) are hosting an information evening titled ‘Zu viel Haus? Finden wir gemeinsam neue Lösungen im Dorf!’ on November 16 at the Herdringen community hall. The event aims to discuss housing challenges for residents whose living situations no longer match their needs, such as empty rooms or high maintenance requirements. Topics include multi-generational living, renting unused spaces, and downsizing within the village. Mayor Ralf Paul Bittner noted that the initiative supports the development of a municipal housing agency to strengthen village cohesion.

In Fulda, the Hospice Support Association held an awareness campaign titled ‘Make your house a peaceful house!’ at Uni-Platz. The event focused on life, death, and grief, featuring representatives from the Malteser and St. Elisabeth hospices, alongside CDU Member of Parliament Michael Brand. The initiative promotes dignified end-of-life care and community support. Participants were introduced to stainless steel plaques designed to symbolize respectful coexistence and peaceful living within the home.
