Local community updates in Damme and Merchtem

In Damme, the Sport Mee! program is offering a free trial week from Monday through Friday, September 11. The initiative provides access to twelve different sports activities, including yoga, swimming, step aerobics, and tai chi, held at various locations such as Sportpark Sijsele, Interbad, and Sportpark Moerkerke.

Following the trial, a sports card costing 25 euros for ten sessions will be available, with the season running until June 18, 2027. Participants can use UiTPAS points to earn free sessions. Activities are paused during school holidays and public holidays.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Merchtem has canceled its planned ‘Welcome Day for New Residents’ scheduled for September 6 at the Dooren sports complex. Despite sending 532 invitations, the local government received only 42 registrations.

Mayor Maarten Mast expressed regret over the low interest, noting that the event was costly for the municipality. The town has sent apologies and a small gift to those who had registered, and officials are now looking for new ways to introduce newcomers to the community.
