Local construction projects spark community protests in Dominican Republic and Mexico

In the Dominican Republic, residents of the Flor de Loto community in Pedro Brand are protesting the closure of a local street due to the construction of a new park. While the community states they do not oppose the park itself, they claim the obstruction of the road connecting sectors 24 and 27 to the Duarte highway has caused mobility issues and at least one accident. Residents have rejected claims from the Mayor's office that their grievances are politically motivated.

In Mexico, controversy is growing over a commercial construction project in the Dzoyilá archaeological zone in Yucatán. Inmobiliaria Kira, S. A. de C. V. has been granted land-use licenses for a medium-impact self-service store and commercial premises on private property. However, activists and local residents argue the site is part of the Dzoyilá archaeological area and claim that construction may have already damaged Mayan vestiges. They are demanding transparency regarding permits and the protection of cultural heritage.
