Municipalities in Argentina debate budgets and public services

Various Argentine municipalities are navigating legislative sessions focused on budget approvals, tax updates, and public service adjustments.

In Comodoro Rivadavia, Mayor Othar Macharashvili secured approval for a staggered increase in urban transport fares, which will rise to $2,300 by February. The Mayor also criticized Vice Mayor Maximiliano Sampaoli for allegedly obstructing municipal initiatives. Meanwhile, Councilor Ximena González questioned the municipality's economic priorities, citing high spending on events despite transport subsidy challenges.

In Cutral Co, the 2027 budget was presented with a projected expenditure of approximately $240.8 billion pesos. Councilor Omar Pérez opposed the plan, noting that certain service taxes could increase by up to 90 percent, which he argued would disproportionately affect low-income residents and small businesses.

In La Plata, Mayor Julio Alak requested a 30-day extension to finalize the 2027 budget and tax ordinances, citing technical complexities. Similarly, in General Pico, the City Council unanimously granted Mayor Fernanda Alonso an extension to present the 2027 budget by December 31.

In La Banda, Llamil Abdala is set to assume the mayoralty for the 2026-2030 term, marking a transition of power for the Frente Cívico administration.
