Local councils review waste management and recycling services

Local councils in the United Kingdom and Australia are implementing changes to waste management services.

In Bracknell, Forest Council is reviewing the opening hours of two household waste recycling centres operated through the re3 partnership. The review follows summer trials intended to assess capacity and address financial pressures. While councillors have expressed concerns regarding potential increases in fly-tipping due to reduced hours, a previous consultation indicated that residents might be open to operational changes if they help ease financial constraints.

In Wentworth Shire, Australia, the council is launching a new three-bin kerbside collection service starting October 5, 2026. The service introduces separate bins for recycling and food and garden waste alongside general waste. Residents are encouraged to trial the service to determine if they require additional general waste capacity before applications for extra bins open in February 2027.
