Local cycling infrastructure initiatives in Munich and Penzberg
In Munich, local politicians are discussing the implementation of a bicycle repair station at Maria-Nindl-Platz in the Prinz-Eugen-Park district. A citizen's proposal for a station equipped with tools and an automatic pump aims to provide low-threshold repair options for the car-light neighborhood, especially when local bike shops are closed. While pilot projects for such stations have been established in areas like Moosach and Lehel, the proposal for Bogenhausen is currently undergoing consultation with the Neighborhood Organization Cooperative (GeQo).
In Penzberg, the construction committee has unanimously decided to reintroduce a provisional pedestrian and cycle path on Birkenstraße. This measure aims to prevent cyclists from having to ride across a parking lot to reach the stadium. The decision will reduce the number of available parking spaces from 43 to 29, as a strip of the lot will be partitioned off to create the path. This temporary solution was previously used during the construction of the Piorama family bath and was reinstated following requests from citizens.
