Local disputes arise in Montorio and Castel di Iudica

In Montorio, the opposition group Visione Comune has criticized Mayor Fabio Altitonante for the urgent removal of a historical hammer and sickle monument. The artifact, originally installed in 1948 and permanently placed in the mid-1950s, represents the political alliance between communists and socialists and the labor struggles of the Vomano region. The opposition argues that the monument is protected under the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, questioning whether the administration consulted the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage before its removal.

Separately, in Castel di Iudica, Mayor Ruggero Strano is demanding the release of 1.2 million euros in regional funds for urgent safety interventions. The requested funds include 800,000 euros for the Franchetto–Castel di Iudica road and 400,000 euros for a parapet wall and sidewalk on via Pasubio. Strano warned that bureaucratic delays pose a significant risk to citizen safety as the autumn rainy season approaches, noting that the small municipality cannot afford to advance such large sums independently.
