Local disputes arise over urban planning in Reggio and Siena

In Reggio Calabria, city councilor Saverio Pazzano has voiced strong opposition to a municipal proposal to relocate schools from the city center to make room for tourist residences and hotels. Pazzano criticized the plan as a form of gentrification that threatens to desertify local services and impoverish the community, arguing that central schools are vital signs of urban life.

In Siena, Vice Mayor and urban planning assessor Michele Capitani has responded to a proposal by Provincial President Agnese Carletti to move the Siena Questura's immigration offices to a building on Viale Sardegna. While Capitani expressed a willingness to dialogue, he noted that the immediate timeline for the relocation may not be compatible with other long-term solutions. He also highlighted that previous redevelopment projects for the Viale Sardegna site, intended for healthcare use, have remained unfinished for several years.
