Local elections focus on Cabrillo College and Montecito Sanitary District
Several local elections are approaching in California, involving governance and infrastructure decisions.
At Cabrillo College, the seven-member governing board has one contested seat for Area 6 following incumbent Dan Rothwell’s decision not to seek reelection. Candidates for the seat, which covers Aptos, La Selva Beach, Day Valley, Corralitos, and Amesti, include Milissa Ales-Barnicoat, Karen Cogswell, and Benjamin Finke.
In Montecito, voters will decide on three seats for the board governing the Montecito Sanitary District. The election centers on the long-term management of the district’s aging treatment plant and whether wastewater should be sent to the City of Santa Barbara for processing. Candidates Ellwood “Woody” Barrett, Chris Francis, and Floyd Wicks support sending effluent to Santa Barbara, while Richard “Rock” Rockenbach and John Murphy have stated they require more information before deciding.
