Mexico and US cities prepare for Independence Day celebrations
Various cities across Mexico and the United States are preparing for widespread celebrations of Mexican Independence Day.
In Mexico, local governments have organized diverse programs featuring music, gastronomy, and traditional ceremonies. In Nuevo León, Governor Samuel García will lead the official ceremony at the Explanada de los Héroes, featuring a drone light show instead of fireworks to protect air quality. In Monclova, Mayor Carlos Villarreal will head the festivities in the Plaza Principal, followed by a parade on September 16. In Boca del Río, Mayor MaryJose Gamboa will become the first woman to lead the 'Grito' from the municipal balcony. Other municipalities, including Villa de Pozos, Meoqui, Navolato, and El Fuerte, have scheduled events ranging from folk dance and musical performances to entrepreneur fairs and sporting races.
In the United States, celebrations are also taking place. Chicago will host festivities in Grant Park, featuring regional Mexican music and live broadcasts via Telemundo and NBC Chicago. Similar commemorative events are noted in San Diego.
