Local environmental groups conduct tree-planting initiatives in Germany

Local environmental initiatives in Germany have seen recent tree-planting activities aimed at enhancing biodiversity and local landscapes.

In Quickborn, the Rotary Club Quickborn held its 19th annual tree-planting event at the Freizeitsee. For the 2026 designation, the club planted an aspen (Zitterpappel) as the ‘Tree of the Year’. The initiative, which creates an educational trail to raise awareness about native flora, involved students from Comenius-Schule Quickborn and local officials, including Mayor Thomas Beckmann. The project is supported by local sponsors such as Stadtwerke Quickborn and Sparkasse Südholstein.

In Otzenrath, the NABU group Jüchen planted a Norway maple (Rotahorn) and a hawthorn (Apfeldorn) near the local evangelical church. These trees were selected to provide shade, attract insects with their spring blossoms, and offer fruit for birds. The planting was made possible through donations, volunteer labor from NABU, and saplings provided by Baumschule Nicolin.
