Community greening initiatives launched in Lopik and Zeist

Local community initiatives in the Netherlands are focusing on urban greening and garden revitalization. In Lopik, the Groene Aanjagers van Duurzaam Lopikerwaard is launching the ‘Lopik Bloeit’ project to restore a community garden near De Manebrug. The initiative aims to transform the area, which has become overgrown in recent years, into a communal ‘picking garden’ featuring borders, shrubs, and edible plants such as raspberries, blackberries, and herbs.

In Zeist, the Stichting Stadslandbouw Zeist has launched a ‘boomspiegelactie’ (tree mirror action). Residents are encouraged to adopt the soil area around trees in their neighborhoods to create small green oases. Participants can apply to receive a free package containing 8-10 perennial plants, bulbs, and compost to support local biodiversity, specifically for bees and butterflies.
