Local figures Mihály Kerékgyártó and Mihály Bartha pass away
Two notable individuals have passed away: Mihály Kerékgyártó, a long-time chronicler of the city of Ózd, and Mihály Bartha, the last veteran of the Úzvölgy battles.
Mihály Kerékgyártó died at the age of 88. Originally a blast furnace worker, he became a dedicated photographer and journalist who documented the daily life and major events of Ózd for decades. His work appeared in various publications, including Ózdi Vasas and Ózdi Kristály, and he amassed a significant press collection that was donated to the Brassói úti ÁMK.
Mihály Bartha passed away at the age of 103. A survivor of the battles at Úzvölgy on August 26, 1944, Bartha spent his life preserving the memory of fallen soldiers. He was a regular participant in commemorations at the Úzvölgy military cemetery and worked to maintain these traditions even during the communist era.
