Local Food Day event features 350 sites across Finland
The tenth annual Local Food Day (Lähiruokapäivä) will take place on September 12–13, featuring a record 350 participating sites across the country. The event is designed to connect visitors with local food producers and rural businesses, offering opportunities to purchase fresh ingredients directly from makers and experience rural life.
In the Someron region, the lineup includes Norbyn farm, which produces GMO-free eggs and organic grains, and the Häntälän Hunaja Shop, which offers honey and gold panning activities. A new site, Hovimäki, has joined the program, while the Kultela savipuisto event was canceled.
In Sippola, Taunola Small Farm will host visitors with various products including Finnish cattle meat, handmade ceramics, and local baked goods. Other regional activities include flower picking and vegetable sales at Kallelan puu ja tarha.
Anna Mäkinen, coordinator for the Food Authority’s rural network unit, noted that the event highlights the expertise of rural workers and their role in strengthening Finland’s food security and supply reliability. Organizers expect approximately 150,000 visitors to attend the nationwide event.
