San Mateo Atenco celebrates 155 years of municipal history

The municipality of San Mateo Atenco in the State of Mexico celebrated its 155th anniversary of being established as a free municipality. The commemoration, which marks the date of its recognition on October 13, 1871, included ceremonies led by municipal president Ana Muñiz Neyra.

As part of the festivities, the local government presented the ‘Reconocimiento al Mérito Atenquense’ to honor various individuals, associations, and companies. The awards recognized contributions in fields such as art, culture, medicine, teaching, sports, engineering, and social responsibility. Honors were also paid to the families of journalists and security personnel who died in the line of duty.

The event also featured the opening of a photographic exhibition titled ‘San Mateo Atenco, imágenes de una tierra con memoria’ at the Atenquense Cultural Center, showcasing the history and identity of the community.
