Local government funding and climate adaptation initiatives in Siena and Terni
In Siena, the municipal government has approved 200,000 euros in funding for local associations for the 2026 period. Mayor Nicoletta Fabio stated the funds aim to support the community's growth by investing in social projects, media libraries, sports facilities, cultural events, healthcare initiatives, and support for elderly social centers.
The allocation will be distributed in two phases, starting with an advance of up to 30 percent, followed by a final balance upon submission of activity reports. Eligibility is subject to the 2026-2028 budget and the absence of outstanding disputes with the municipality.
In Terni, the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) has responded to a proposed 30 million euro road maintenance plan. M5S representatives, including provincial coordinator Daniele Pica, urged that the investment should not merely be used for repaving roads but should instead focus on climate adaptation. They proposed using the funds to create a greener, more livable city by planting trees, reducing heat islands, and replacing concrete with permeable surfaces to combat the region's high temperatures.
