Local governments advance community infrastructure projects in Maracaibo and Mazatlán

In Maracaibo, Venezuela, the Altamira Sur sports court has been rehabilitated following fifteen years of abandonment. The project, executed by the Corporación Maracaibo Juntos Todo es Posible, included new lighting, basketball backboards, a playground, an outdoor gym, and accessibility ramps. This renovation was a result of decisions made through participatory budgeting assemblies. The city is preparing for a national popular consultation on October 18, where over one hundred communes will vote on new urban infrastructure projects, including public lighting, water networks, and healthcare centers.

In Mazatlán, Mexico, construction has resumed on the ‘Marco Verde’ Community and Sports Center in the Benito Juárez neighborhood. Following a successful bidding process, the state government is restarting work on the previously unfinished project. Raúl Francisco Montero Zamudio, Secretary of Public Works, stated that technical studies are being conducted to assess the structural integrity and welding of the existing construction to ensure safety. The facility is being designed as a high-performance center that can also serve as a shelter during heavy rain events.
