Local governments hold workshops on housing planning and affordability

Local authorities in Pacific County, Washington, and Arcata, California, are conducting workshops to address housing needs and long-term planning.

The Pacific County Planning Commission is reviewing its comprehensive plan, a process mandated every decade by Washington’s Growth Management Act. The upcoming workshop will present a draft housing needs assessment and a draft housing element. These documents aim to address housing affordability, increase housing stock, and remove barriers to homeownership for the period spanning 2027 to 2046.

In Arcata, the City Council and Planning Commission are hosting a workshop focused on fair housing and the city’s 2027–2035 Housing Element. The session aims to explore inclusive neighborhood planning and define access to opportunity within the local community. This follows California state requirements for jurisdictions to adopt a Housing Element as part of their General Plan to manage population growth and resource constraints.
