Local governments in Colombia and Venezuela enhance social and security services

In Soledad, Colombia, the local government reported that its Regional Victim Assistance Center has provided services to 32,197 people through July. During the second Transitional Justice Committee of 2026, Mayor Alcira Sandoval Ibáñez highlighted progress in legal assistance, housing guidance, and education. The municipality also reported providing job opportunities to over 400 people and food assistance to thousands of families. A new characterization of the victim population is being launched to better manage resources with national and international cooperation.

In San Cristóbal, Venezuela, the municipal government has distributed new patrol vehicles, motorcycles, smartphones, and advanced technological equipment to local peace quadrants. Mayor Silfredo Zambrano announced the expansion of the ‘Smart City’ project, which includes the installation of over 150 security cameras, with plans to add more in key sectors like Avenida Carabobo and the Cathedral area. These devices will be linked to a situational room to improve crime containment and emergency response times.
