Local governments in Indonesia promote heritage and village tourism
The Kediri City Government is working to develop urban tourism by focusing on historical, cultural, and culinary assets. Since the region lacks natural attractions like mountains or beaches, officials are prioritizing the Kediri Heritage Walking Street concept. This program, which has been tested in collaboration with OJK Kediri, invites visitors to walk through historical sites starting from the Kediri Station area.
Additionally, the city is rehabilitating local museums through cooperation with the Ministry of Culture. Funded by the state budget, these improvements include structural repairs to roofs and ventilation, as well as enhancements to lighting and the presentation of historical storylines to create a more structured visitor experience.
In Bekasi Regency, the local government is encouraging the development of tourism villages based on local potential to preserve culture and boost the economy. Regent Asep Surya Atmaja highlighted the Kawung Tilu Tourism Destination in Cipayung Village as an example of how traditional arts and local wisdom can serve as attractions. Despite Bekasi's reputation as an industrial hub, officials aim to maintain rural traditions, agricultural activities, and local culinary heritage.
