Local governments provide disaster relief in Colombia and Chile

Local governments in Colombia and Chile are providing emergency aid to communities affected by recent natural disasters.

In La Ceja, Colombia, the municipal administration has allocated approximately $100 million in construction materials to repair homes damaged by an earthquake on August 10. Following technical inspections by the Subsecretaría de Vivienda, officials identified that while some structures sustained significant damage, most homes only suffered cracks. The aid includes adobe, sand, rebar, and crushed stone, with families providing the necessary labor for repairs.

In Chile, the Municipality of La Serena has deployed teams to the remote locality of Almirante Latorre to deliver essential supplies following storm damage. Due to deteriorated roads hindering regular water truck access, the operation provided 68 water containers, hygiene kits, and 800 liters of fuel for the community generator. The relief efforts also included tools and bedding for affected residents to assist in the recovery of the rural sector.
