Local governments seek property tax levy renewals for public services

Local government officials in Corvallis and Summit County are moving forward with property tax levy renewals to maintain essential public services.

The Corvallis School Board has voted to place a local option levy renewal on the November ballot. If approved, the levy would run for five years starting in July 2027. The measure currently generates approximately $11.3 million annually, accounting for about 10% of the district’s operating revenue and supporting 67 full-time staff. Funds are used for elementary school programs such as art, music, and physical education, as well as high school athletics, counseling, and career education.

In Summit County, the Board of County Commissioners has approved language for a 2026 ballot measure to extend the Strong Future mill levy indefinitely. The measure aims to continue funding wildfire mitigation, behavioral health programs, early childhood care, recycling, and public building improvements. Officials stated that the extension would not increase property taxes but would ensure the continuity of programs that have already provided financial support to over 1,400 families.
