Local heroes gather in Fukui for tribute event

Approximately 80 local heroes from across Japan gathered in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture, for the inaugural ‘Heroes Reignite Fukui’ event on September 21. The gathering served as a tribute to Masa Echizen (born Masami Ito), the creator of the Fukui-based hero ‘Fukuizer,’ who passed away from stomach cancer in July at the age of 35.

Originally conceived by project members to encourage Echizen during his illness, the event proceeded as a memorial following his death. The event featured action shows, photo sessions, and merchandise sales, drawing thousands of spectators, including many children. The program concluded with a performance of ‘Tachiagare Challenger,’ a song Echizen had written for the occasion.

The Hokuriku Hero Project, which Echizen founded to promote the charms of Fukui through regional characters, will hold its next event in Fukui City during Golden Week in May 2025.
