Local infrastructure and traffic management debates in Alghero and Torre Faro
In Alghero, former Economic Development Councilor Gianfranco Langella has proposed infrastructure changes to mitigate traffic disruptions caused by local events. He suggests widening the lanes on via Garibaldi, or at least one of them, to allow for temporary two-way traffic when one side of the road is closed for public gatherings. Langella emphasized that while events like rallies bring economic benefits and visibility to the city, the resulting traffic congestion must be addressed through permanent organizational solutions.
In the Messina area, questions have been raised regarding ATM's decision to establish a parking area for cars and buses between viale Cariddi and via Circuito in Torre Faro. Critics have questioned the choice to rent rather than purchase the land, the high cost of 640,000 euros, and the potential lack of environmental authorizations. Concerns were also raised about why a larger, flatter alternative site near the Capo Peloro Resort was not utilized, which could accommodate nearly triple the number of vehicles without significant additional work.
