Local infrastructure delays in Loja and pet blessings in Riobamba reported in Ecuador
Residents of the Sacapo neighborhood in San Pedro de Vilcabamba, Loja, have reported delays regarding a promised 1.8-kilometer road paving project. Despite an announcement on September 4, 2026, by the Prefecture and the Parochial Government to begin works, locals claim activity has been minimal, consisting only of an excavator and a dump truck. Residents expressed concern that the current state of the road—marked by potholes, mud, and dust—could be further damaged by upcoming rains if progress is not made.
In Riobamba, the Franciscan community organized a blessing for approximately one thousand pets at the San Antonio de Padua church. Held in honor of the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the event included various animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, and roosters. Participants received certificates for their pets following the religious ceremony.
