Local infrastructure updates in Santena and San Benedetto
In Santena, Vice Mayor Paolo Romano announced that construction to upgrade the sewerage network in the via Sangone area is expected to begin no earlier than mid-2027. The project aims to mitigate frequent flooding in basements caused by extreme weather events. Planned interventions include laying 150 meters of new pressure piping for sewage and 420 meters of PVC gravity piping for rainwater collection. A service conference is scheduled to conclude by late November 2026 to finalize project approvals.
In San Benedetto, the timeline for the new market facility has been extended. According to the Single Programming Document (Dup), the project aims to complete 80 percent of redevelopment by the end of 2026, with construction finishing in 2027 and the market officially reopening in 2028. Mayor Massimo Zedda noted that delays were caused by the decision to demolish the existing structure rather than renovate it. Local councilor Giuseppe Farris expressed skepticism regarding the current deadlines, suggesting the opening could slip even further.
