Local initiatives launched in Genoa and Bordighera

The Metropolitan City of Genoa has announced progress in its initiative to open school sports facilities to the public during after-school hours. Following a census of 77 school sports spaces, 52 have been identified as suitable for community use. In 2026, 41 of these spaces—including gyms, gymnastics areas, outdoor spaces, and a climbing tower—have been put out to tender to increase local access to sports and foster community aggregation.

In Bordighera, the local administration has introduced the ‘Comunità che Cura’ (Caring Community) project. This initiative aims to create a network between the municipality, health services, schools, and associations to prevent psychological distress and support vulnerable populations. The project includes school programs addressing anxiety, bullying, and social media use, as well as the creation of digital and print guides to help citizens navigate mental health services. Efforts will also focus on reducing social stigma through art, music, and sports-based inclusion activities.
